Travel by Buses
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is served by many regular public buses that travel from the airport's terminal buildings to central Washington and other nearby areas in Virginia, such as Roanoke and Charlottesville. Operated the Greyhouse, the buses at Washington Airport run daily at regular intervals and are an inexpensive and useful way to travel into the city.
There is also a coach service at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) that run from the airport's Arrival level at the Main Terminal and links to the nearby West Falls Church Metrorail Station. This service operates from early morning until late at night and tickets are available at the Ground Transportation Counter in the airport's main terminal building, next to door 4.
Travel by Trains
The Washington Metrorail system is the local rapid train transport system. The West Falls Church Metrorail Station is situated close to the airport and can be reached by a short coach journey, connecting Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to central Washington and other surrounding areas.
Travel by Hotel Shuttle
Many Washington hotels also offer a door-to-door courtesy shuttle bus services for their guests, traveling from Washington airport, directly to the hotel from outside of the airport's passenger buildings. Courtesy telephones are available at the airport's baggage reclaim area and the shuttle buses collect guest just outside, at the curbside.
Travel by Shuttle Buses
Shuttle buses are also available at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and are operated by 'SuperShuttle'. Traveling from the airport's Main Terminal to central Washington and making many stops on the way, the airport's shared-shuttle buses also connect the airport with many of the hotels in Washington. Vans with access for disabled passengers are available upon request.
Travel by Taxi Cabs
Taxis are readily available at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) outside of the airport's Main Terminal building on the lower levels. They provide a convenient and easy way to travel into nearby Washington city and other destinations. The journey from Washington Airport into central Washington will take around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Official Washington IAD airport taxi cabs should be used at all times to ensure safety and also to avoid being overcharged. All of the taxis at Washington Airport are operated by Washington Flyer Taxicabs and these run 24 hours a day.
The airport taxi meters in Washington start at a basic fare, but additional charges are usually made for luggage, late-night driving and travel on public holidays in Washington, so it can prove useful to ask the taxi driver about these before leaving. Some Washington Airport taxis are happy to accept credit cards.
