With yearly passenger levels of around 25 million and located just 26 miles / 42 km west of Washington city center, the busy Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) lies next to Brambleton, Floris, Hattontown, Herndon and Reston. The Dulles Airport facility itself is vast and covers almost 12,000 acres / 4,860 hectares and boasts just over 30 airlines, flying to 120 destinations, around two-thirds of which are domestic.
Dulles Airport offers passenger plenty of choice in the way of ground transportation, linking downtown Washington and its many nearby neighborhoods. These include the lively Adams-Morgan district, the African-American neighborhood of Anacostia, Foggy Bottom and its waterfront, the fashionable district of Georgetown, and Capitol Hill area, home to the famous US Capitol.
Washington Flyer coaches and taxis, and SuperShuttles are amongst the most popular ways to reach the city and the communities of Arlington and Alexandria, which lie across the Potomac River. Metrorail rapid-transit trains are available close to Washington Dulles Airport, with the West Falls Church Metrorail Station being connected by coaches. Further afield, Chesapeake Bay can be found to the far south-east.

Dulles Airport (IAD) is close to the suburbs of Chantilly, Herndon, Reston and Sterling, and is also relatively near to Alexandria, Fairfax and even Baltimore. However, it is Washington DC where most tourists flying into the airport choose to head first, often paying a visit to the National Mall, which stretches between Capitol Hill and Potomac River, and contains an array of famous monuments and exceptional museums.
